Reflecting on the Past as We Embrace the Future

On behalf of the CFPC, welcome to Family Medicine Forum 2014, and to Quebec City! We are pleased to co-host this year’s conference with the Quebec College of Family Physicians and the CFPC’s Section of Teachers and Section of Researchers. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the CFPC and the 20th anniversary of the Research and Education Foundation, and we’ve got several events and features to celebrate these milestones including a commemorative book, a family medicine heritage website, and our FMF Celebration immediately following Convocation on Saturday. Visit the redesigned College Square in the Exhibit Hall to learn more.

As we celebrate Family Doctor Week in Canada and our 60 years as the voice of family medicine, inevitably, our attentions turn to the future. According to the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS), this year family medicine was selected as the top career choice by medical students at the highest rate ever: more than 38% of Canadian medical school graduates chose a career in family medicine. We are pleased to see this trend of increasing interest in our discipline and are confident that the future is bright for family medicine in Canada.

With growing numbers of family physicians, we are reminded of the importance of lifelong learning to help ensure that we deliver the best care possible to our patients at all stages of our careers. The CFPC is proud of its quality MAINPRO® programs to support your continuing professional development (CPD) requirements. In 2015 we’ll see the introduction of Mainpro+, which will bring further enhancements to the CPD platform and credit reporting to support the changing learning requirements of family doctors. Throughout FMF, we hope you enjoy the CPD sessions and many other events that provide valuable networking opportunities with family medicine colleagues from across the country. In addition to the full program, we hope that you can find some time to explore the beautiful and historic Quebec City. We look forward to seeing you during FMF. Enjoy!
