For the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), this has meant $4.36 million to support professional development for family doctors across the country, and to provide awards and scholarships for medical learners. The five-year funding includes annual investments for:
- scholarships and awards for medical students and family medicine residents, including funds dedicated to Indigenous students and residents;
- the CFPC’s Family Medicine Forum, one of Canada’s largest annual conferences1 for family physicians, featuring high-quality professional development sessions along with networking and social opportunities;
- international fellowships in family medicine to help advance primary care around the world; and
- family medicine interest groups at medical schools across Canada to inspire students to pursue rewarding careers in this specialty.
The CMA, MD and Scotiabank have also supported initiatives through CFPC’s Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM), including the Family Physician of the Year Award.
