The Fairmont Waterfront Ballroom sparkled with lively conversations and stunning views of the North Shore Mountains during the Awards Gala on Friday, November 1st, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Hosted by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM), the gala is our annual celebration of achievements in family medicine.
At the event we wrapped up a year commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) Special Designation and the Certification Examination in Family Medicine. We were thrilled to have several recipients of those first CCFP designations join us at the gala! It made the evening even more memorable.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) welcomed its new President, President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, and a Director-at-Large at the Annual Meeting of Members on Thursday, October 31st, at Family Medicine Forum.

What better time to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Certification Examination in Family Medicine than at the annual Convocation ceremony! This year we’re honoured to have some of the original recipients of the Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) attending Convocation on Saturday, November 2nd.

  2. Wellness Lounge: Press “paws” in the Exhibit Hall and meet canines from the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society during session breaks. This organization raises and trains service dogs to work with community care professionals and people living with disabilities.
    The Exhibit hall is open Thursday (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), Friday (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), and Saturday (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
  3. Annual Meeting of Members: Enjoy lunch as you hear about the latest College developments from your Executive Director and CEO.

Arrange for childcare needs: Children are welcome to join you at specific FMF events and activities with no registration required. Most of the FMF hotel partners provide nanny services; please check with your hotel in advance for details. We’ve also lined up discounts at some of the city’s major attractions for you and your guests to enjoy.
Plan to visit the Exhibit Hall: Meet College staff, bid on Silent Auction items at the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine’s booth, interact with exhibitors, and recharge in the Wellness Lounge and the Student and Resident Lounge. Wednesday, October 30th: Dr. Robert Woollard is an expert in social accountability in medical education and in the development of ecosystem approaches to health care. He has published extensively in these and other areas of family medicine research and is a former head of the Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia.
Thursday, October 31st: Timothy Caulfield exposes bad science and debunks myths plaguing public health with his powerful writing, as in his book Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything?: When Celebrity Culture and Science Clash. He is a professor in the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Health and a research director of the Health Law Institute at the University of Alberta.
Friday, November 1st: Dr. Evan Adams is a Coast Salish family physician and chief medical officer of the First Nations Health Authority in British Columbia. A multi-talented individual, Dr. Adams is also an actor and motivational speaker who brings kindness, wisdom, and keen perspective to his presentations.
Saturday, November 2nd: Dr. Christy Sutherland is medical director of the Portland Hotel Society in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, where her team cares for a vulnerable population of patients. She was recognized as British Columbia’s Family Physician of the Year in 2018.
