Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) estimates 3o per cent waste in unnecessary tests, treatments, and procedures. Many of these expenditures do not have value for patients. Choosing Wisely is an international campaign helping physicians and patients make smart and effective choices, thereby reducing resulting health care costs. Dr Wendy Levinson, Chair, CWC, and Dr Lynn Wilson, Primary Care Co-lead, CWC, in their keynote address on Friday at FMF, encouraged family physicians to reconsider before ordering tests, treatments, and procedures, and to consider how CWC’s message can be incorporated into their practice and teaching.
