The College’s Research and Education Foundation (REF) is pleased to announce they saw record amounts raised through the Silent Auction and Walk for the Docs events during FMF.

The Silent Auction ran throughout FMF at the REF booth in College Square and offered more than 100 items up for bid. Winners of the items were determined on Saturday, November 17th at 12:30 pm. If you had the winning bid, you should already have been contacted. At final tally, the Silent Auction and a raffle for an iPad Mini raised $14,114. The proceeds will help fund REF awards, scholarships, and family medicine research grants. “This year’s auction saw a wonderful variety of items donated by sponsors, members, and staff,” said Sarah Delaney, REF Manager. “Thank you to everyone who donated these items and to everyone who participated in the auction. Your support made this year’s event our best yet!”

Did you miss out on that perfect item? Plan now to take part in the REF Silent Auction in Vancouver 2013 and don’t walk away disappointed. Remember, your bid goes twice as far, winning you that unique item and supporting a great cause. See you next year!

The Walk for Docs of Tomorrow was also a great success, with a whopping $28,040 raised for the future of family medicine in Canada. Congratulations to the University of Saskatchewan, the winning Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG), who raised a record total of $6,020. Thank you to all who participated and helped make this event a great success. Lace up your shoes for next year!

But none of this would have been possible without the input you, the participants, who took part in presenting and attending excellent continuing medical education (CME) and continuing professional development (CPD) seminars and workshops.

This year saw record numbers of attendees, with more than 5,000 registrants. The exhibit hall was its largest yet, with over 190 exhibitors and almost 300 booths. The new design of College Square meant members had open access to information from numerous College representatives.

The Research and Education Foundation Silent Auction included more than 100 items, including signed items from Hollywood celebrities. The money from the auction is still being processed, but the sum will go a long way for the College’s Research and Education Foundation. The Walk for the Docs of Tomorrow was also a hit. Congratulations to the Family Medicine Interest Group from the University of Saskatchewan, which raised $6,020, earning them the first-place fundraising finish for 2012!

During the course of FMF, we hope you were able to both connect with old friends and make new ones. Thank you for another great year of leading CME/CPD events at FMF.

See you in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 7 to 9, 2013.
